Stone Town was also used as a centre of trading activities on the East African coast, between Asia and Africa before the colonisation of the mainland in the late 1800’s, after which the attention moved to the coast of Mombasa in Kenya and Dar-es-salaam the industrial city on Tanzania’s Mainland. The main trade product was the exportation of spices such Cloves.
