Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtakingly spectacular setting and the best place in East Africa to spot the African Big 5 game, Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Rhino, and Leopard. It’s one of the world’s largest unbroken caldera which is the most noticeable feature of the park. The local Maasai tribe lives and grazes their livestock alongside the wild animals in the park.
Serengeti comes from a Maasai word “Siringiti”, which translates as the endless plains! Serengeti National Park located in the Northern part of Tanzania, is one of African’s most famous national parks which makes Northern Tanzania a popular tourist destination. It is home to the spectacular wildebeest migration and offers world-class wildlife viewing throughout the year. Serengeti national park is Tanzania’s oldest park and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Tarangire National Park is part of Tanzania’s Northern safari route in the Manyara region. It is an excellent destination for the wildlife enthusiast; it is a protected park that has the highest population density of elephants compared to other parts of Tanzania and its open plains. The landscape is rich and diverse with stunning and enormous baobab (upside-down) trees. This makes it a beautiful and unique park to visit.
Ndutu Conservation Area is located in the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and stretches to the unfenced southern reaches to the Serengeti national park, a meeting point between these two remarkable wilderness areas. This part of the park is made up of rolling grasslands scattered with alkaline lakes that attract crowds of flamingos.
The best time to visit the Ndutu areas are between December and April. During the great migration of hundreds and thousands of wildebeest herds begins to arrive from the north. The region is also a route for thousands of Antelope, Zebra and other predators that come to graze during the rain seasons. This park is also a great for spotting the six types of cats such as leopard, cheetah, lion, caracal, African wildcat and serval; this also makes a big highlight for visiting the Ndutu region. The forest around Lake Ndutu is also home to wildlife including Cheetahs, Lions, Thompson’s Gazelle, Wildebeests, Hyenas and many more.
Lake Eyasi is located in the southwest end of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, between the Great Lift Valley Eyasi cliffs just about 95 miles west of Lake Manyara. The lake is, as all the other lakes in the Rift Valley an alkaline/Soda Lake. Lake Eyasi is home to the Hadzabe Bushmen, and is one of the few places remaining in Africa where tribal life is still relatively untouched by the development of the region. The Hadzabe community is endangered due to the fact that most of their land has been taken away from them for commercial use. The Hadzabe community have called Lake Eyasi home for more than 10,000 years, and still maintain their hunting and gatherer lifestyle, making them one of the last strongholds of ancient African tribal life.
Lake Eyasi is also home to another tribe known as the Tindiga. The tribe also practices in a hunting and gatherer community however they have had enough of this lifestyle, and are now believed to be keen in joining the “civilized world”, as they have been living in forests for centuries, without permanent locations, shelter and support.
